Who We Are

LegaeHub ("we", "us", "our") is a South African online platform that connects people who need local services with verified service providers in their area. Our platform is accessible via our website and as a Progressive Web App (PWA) installable on mobile devices.

LegaeHub is operated as a South African business and is therefore subject to the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA), which governs how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information.

For any privacy-related matters, you can contact our Information Officer at the details provided in Section 10 of this policy.

Information We Collect

We only collect information that is necessary to provide the LegaeHub service. Here is exactly what we collect and why:

Information you give us directly

  • Full name โ€” when you submit a service listing or create an account
  • Phone number โ€” so potential clients can contact you
  • WhatsApp number โ€” if you choose to provide it for client communication
  • Service description โ€” the details of the service you offer
  • Location / area โ€” the area where you operate (general area only, not precise address)
  • Pricing information โ€” rates or price ranges you choose to share
  • Category of service โ€” the type of work you do
  • Profile photo or avatar preferences โ€” if you customise your profile

Information collected automatically

  • Device type and browser โ€” to optimise the app for your device
  • General location โ€” city or region level only, if you grant permission, to show nearby providers
  • App usage data โ€” which features you use, search terms entered, pages visited (via Google Analytics and Firebase Analytics)
  • Installation data โ€” whether you have installed the PWA on your device

Information from third parties

  • Google Sign-In โ€” if you log in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google. We do not receive your Google password.

What we do NOT collect: We do not collect South African ID numbers, banking details, payment card information, or precise GPS coordinates without your explicit permission.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes only:

  • To display your service listing โ€” your name, service details, location area, price, and contact number are shown to users searching for services on LegaeHub
  • To enable communication โ€” your phone/WhatsApp number allows potential clients to contact you directly
  • To improve the platform โ€” usage analytics help us understand which features are most useful and where we can improve
  • To send you platform notifications โ€” alerts about new messages, listing views, or important platform updates (only if you have enabled notifications)
  • To provide customer support โ€” to respond to your queries or complaints
  • To detect and prevent fraud or abuse โ€” to keep the platform safe for all users
  • To comply with legal obligations โ€” where required by South African law

Important: We do not use your personal information for targeted advertising. We do not build advertising profiles. LegaeHub is an ad-free platform.

How We Store Your Information

LegaeHub uses Google Firebase, a platform provided by Google LLC, to store and manage data. Firebase services we use include:

  • Firebase Authentication โ€” stores your login credentials securely
  • Firebase Realtime Database โ€” stores your service listings and messages
  • Firebase Hosting โ€” serves the LegaeHub web application
  • Firebase Analytics โ€” collects anonymised usage statistics

Firebase data is stored on Google's secure servers. Google Firebase complies with GDPR (European data protection law), which provides a high standard of data protection that also benefits our South African users under POPIA.

Some data is also stored locally on your device using your browser's localStorage. This includes your preferences, bookmarked providers, search history, and app settings. This data never leaves your device unless you are logged in and syncing your profile.

How long we keep your data

  • Service listings โ€” kept for as long as your account is active or until you delete the listing
  • Messages โ€” kept for 12 months then automatically deleted
  • Analytics data โ€” anonymised and kept for 26 months (Google Analytics default)
  • Account data โ€” kept until you request deletion of your account

Who We Share Your Information With

We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

Service providers (third parties who help us run LegaeHub)

  • Google Firebase โ€” data storage and authentication
  • Google Analytics โ€” anonymised usage statistics
  • Google Play Store โ€” app distribution (for Play Store users)

All third-party providers are bound by data processing agreements and are not permitted to use your data for any purpose other than providing services to LegaeHub.

Other LegaeHub users

When you submit a service listing, the following information is visible to all users of LegaeHub: your name, service title, description, general location area, price, phone number, and WhatsApp number. You choose what information to include in your listing.

Legal requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by South African law, court order, or lawful request from a government authority.

We will never: sell your personal information to third parties, share your data with advertisers, or transfer your data to any party not listed in this section without your explicit consent.

Your Rights Under POPIA

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to access โ€” you can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Right to correction โ€” you can update or correct your information at any time through your profile settings or by contacting us
  • Right to deletion โ€” you can request that we delete your personal information and close your account
  • Right to object โ€” you can object to the processing of your personal information for specific purposes
  • Right to restrict processing โ€” you can ask us to stop using your information in certain ways
  • Right to data portability โ€” you can request your data in a commonly used electronic format
  • Right to complain โ€” if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

Cookies & Local Storage

LegaeHub uses browser localStorage (similar to cookies) to store your preferences and make the app work correctly. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking cookies from third parties.

What we store in your browser

  • Your app preferences (dark mode, compact view, notification settings)
  • Bookmarked / saved service providers
  • Your search history (stored locally only, never sent to our servers)
  • Whether you have dismissed the install banner
  • Your authentication token (if you are logged in)
  • Offline form submissions waiting to be sent

You can clear all locally stored data at any time by going to Settings โ†’ Data โ†’ "Clear all data" within the app, or by clearing your browser's storage in your phone's browser settings.

Google Analytics cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how people use LegaeHub. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect anonymised data about page visits and user behaviour. This data does not personally identify you. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Children's Privacy

LegaeHub is not intended for use by persons under the age of 18 years. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to LegaeHub, please contact us immediately at the details in Section 10. We will promptly delete any such information upon verification.

By using LegaeHub, you confirm that you are 18 years of age or older, or that you are using the platform under the supervision of a parent or guardian who has agreed to these terms on your behalf.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • Show a notification in the LegaeHub app
  • If we have your contact details, send you a direct notification

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of LegaeHub after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

If you do not agree with any changes, you may delete your account and stop using the platform at any time.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using LegaeHub โ€” whether through our website, Progressive Web App, or any other platform โ€” you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully before using the platform.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use LegaeHub. Your continued use of the platform after any changes to these Terms constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User", "you", "your") and LegaeHub ("we", "us", "our") under South African law.

You must be at least 18 years old to use LegaeHub. By using the platform, you confirm you are 18 or older.

What LegaeHub Is

LegaeHub is an online marketplace and directory platform that connects individuals seeking local services ("Service Seekers") with individuals and businesses offering local services ("Service Providers").

Important: LegaeHub is a platform only. We do not employ service providers, we do not perform any services ourselves, and we do not guarantee the quality, safety, legality, or availability of any services listed on the platform. All service agreements are made directly between Service Seekers and Service Providers.

LegaeHub acts as a neutral technology platform. We facilitate connections but are not a party to any transaction or service agreement between users. Any contract for services is solely between the Service Seeker and the Service Provider.

User Accounts

You may browse LegaeHub without an account. However, to submit a service listing, message providers, or access certain features, you must create an account.

Account requirements

  • You must provide accurate, complete, and up-to-date information when creating your account
  • You must be a real person โ€” business accounts must be operated by a real, authorised individual
  • You may only create one account per person
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account

Account security

If you believe your account has been compromised, you must notify us immediately at the contact details in Section 13. We will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to keep your account secure.

Google Sign-In

If you sign in using Google, your use of Google's authentication service is also governed by Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. LegaeHub is not responsible for Google's services.

Service Provider Rules

If you list a service on LegaeHub, you agree to the following:

Accuracy of listings

  • All information in your listing must be accurate, honest, and up-to-date
  • You must only advertise services you are genuinely qualified and able to provide
  • Pricing information must be a fair and accurate representation of what you charge
  • You must update or remove your listing if you are no longer offering the service
  • You may not use a name, photo, or identity that is not your own

Qualifications and compliance

  • You are responsible for ensuring you hold any licences, certifications, or registrations required by South African law to perform your service (e.g. electrical COCs, plumbing certifications, PSIRA registration for security)
  • You must comply with all applicable South African laws when performing services
  • LegaeHub does not verify qualifications โ€” the responsibility lies entirely with you

Professional conduct

  • You must treat all clients professionally and respectfully
  • You must honour agreed prices and timeframes to the best of your ability
  • You must not solicit payment outside of agreed terms
  • You must not request personal information beyond what is needed to perform the service

Reviews and ratings

  • You may not offer incentives in exchange for positive reviews
  • You may not submit fake reviews for your own listing or negative reviews for competitors
  • You may respond professionally to reviews left on your profile

Service Seeker Rules

If you use LegaeHub to find services, you agree to the following:

  • You will use the platform only for genuine, lawful service needs
  • You will communicate with service providers respectfully and professionally
  • You will not make false or misleading enquiries
  • You will only leave reviews for services you have genuinely received
  • You will not attempt to obtain services through fraudulent means
  • You will conduct your own due diligence before hiring any service provider โ€” including verifying qualifications, checking references, and agreeing on terms in writing where appropriate

Safety tip: Before hiring anyone, we recommend getting at least two quotes, asking for references, and never paying the full amount upfront. LegaeHub verified badges confirm a provider's phone number โ€” they do not guarantee the quality of their work.

Prohibited Conduct

The following conduct is strictly prohibited on LegaeHub and may result in immediate account suspension or termination:

Fraud and misrepresentation

  • Impersonating another person or business
  • Providing false qualifications or certifications
  • Listing services you do not intend to provide
  • Advance fee fraud or any form of scamming
  • Creating fake listings to mislead users

Harmful or illegal content

  • Listing illegal services of any kind
  • Posting offensive, discriminatory, or harassing content
  • Sharing another user's personal information without consent
  • Uploading malicious code, spam, or harmful content

Platform abuse

  • Creating multiple accounts to circumvent a suspension
  • Manipulating reviews or ratings
  • Using automated tools or bots to scrape or interact with the platform
  • Attempting to hack, overload, or disrupt the platform
  • Using LegaeHub to send unsolicited commercial messages (spam)

Zero tolerance: Any form of scamming, advance fee fraud, or impersonation will result in immediate permanent account ban and may be reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) and/or the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC).

Payments & Fees

Free listings

Listing a service on LegaeHub is currently free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce fees in the future, and we will give users reasonable notice before doing so.

Featured listings

We may offer paid "Featured" or "Promoted" listing options in the future. These will be clearly marked as paid promotions.

No payment processing

LegaeHub does not process payments between Service Seekers and Service Providers. All financial transactions are made directly between users, outside of the LegaeHub platform. We are not responsible for any payments made between users.

Disputes about payment

Any payment disputes are solely between the Service Seeker and Service Provider. LegaeHub has no obligation to mediate or resolve payment disputes between users.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, LegaeHub and its operators shall not be liable for:

  • The quality, safety, or legality of any service performed by a Service Provider found through LegaeHub
  • Any loss, damage, injury, or harm resulting from services arranged through the platform
  • Any financial loss resulting from a transaction between users
  • The accuracy of any listing, review, or profile information provided by users
  • Any interruption, error, or unavailability of the LegaeHub platform
  • Any loss of data stored on our platform due to technical failure
  • Any unauthorised access to your account resulting from your failure to secure your login credentials

Your responsibility: You use LegaeHub at your own risk. LegaeHub is a directory, not an agency. We encourage all users to exercise caution, verify providers independently, and use written agreements for any significant work.

Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 (CPA) or any other mandatory South African consumer protection legislation.

Intellectual Property

All content on LegaeHub that is created by us โ€” including the LegaeHub name, logo, design, code, and platform features โ€” is owned by LegaeHub and protected by South African intellectual property law.

Your content

When you submit a service listing, review, photo, or any other content to LegaeHub, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and use that content on the LegaeHub platform for the purpose of providing the service. You retain ownership of your content.

What you may not do

  • Copy, reproduce, or distribute LegaeHub's design or code without permission
  • Use the LegaeHub name or logo without written authorisation
  • Scrape or extract data from LegaeHub using automated tools
  • Create competing platforms using LegaeHub's content or structure without permission

Termination

Your right to leave

You may stop using LegaeHub at any time. You may delete your account and all associated data by contacting us at the details in Section 13. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

Our right to suspend or terminate

We reserve the right to suspend, restrict, or permanently terminate your access to LegaeHub at any time, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have:

  • Violated any provision of these Terms
  • Engaged in fraudulent, harmful, or illegal activity
  • Provided false or misleading information
  • Acted in a way that harms other users or the platform

In cases of serious violations (fraud, scamming, illegal activity), termination will be immediate and without warning. In less serious cases, we will attempt to notify you and give you an opportunity to remedy the issue.

Effect of termination

Upon termination, your listings will be removed from the platform. Your data will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Sections 8, 9, and 11 of these Terms survive termination.

Dispute Resolution

If you have a dispute with LegaeHub, we ask that you first contact us directly to try to resolve the issue informally. We will make every reasonable effort to address your concern within 30 days.

Disputes between users

LegaeHub is not responsible for resolving disputes between Service Seekers and Service Providers. We encourage users to:

  • Communicate directly and professionally to resolve issues
  • Use written agreements before work begins to prevent misunderstandings
  • Contact the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud if a resolution cannot be reached
  • Seek legal advice for significant disputes

Reporting platform violations

To report a user or listing that violates these Terms, use the Report button within the app or contact us at the details in Section 13. We investigate all reports and take appropriate action.

Governing Law

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any legal proceedings arising from or relating to these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

Relevant South African legislation that applies to your use of LegaeHub includes:

  • Electronic Communications and Transactions Act, 25 of 2002 (ECTA)
  • Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 (CPA)
  • Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA)
  • Cybercrimes Act, 19 of 2020
